Aimed at First Line Managers, Team leaders, Supervisors and Senior Operatives.
The aim of this one-day workshop is to ensure that First Line managers and front-line supervisors adopt a consistent best practice approach to managing performance within operations and that they apply effective coaching to address under-performance issues.
Objectives
- Define ‘performance management' and identify the benefits of performance management to the individual, the team and the business
- Identify the root cause(s) of performance issues
- Handle performance interviews professionally to ensure positive outcomes
- Identify ways of improving under performance and set and monitor achievable targets and improvement plans
- Explain the principles of coaching and its importance within the business/workplace
- Explain and apply the GROW(ER) and ABC coaching models and other coaching techniques to the delivery of coaching sessions
- Use effective questioning/listening/motivational techniques to gain an understanding of the coachee's current needs and to address under- performance in key business areas
- Plan and deliver an effective coaching session
- Provide constructive feedback and respond positively to feedback
- Apply effective follow-up techniques to confirm performance improvement and the effectiveness of the coaching intervention

- Identifying and managing under-performance - hints, tips and techniques
- Handling ‘difficult' conversations - hints, tips and techniques
- Giving and receiving feedback
- Setting and monitoring realistic performance improvement targets
- The Principles/Benefits of Effective Coaching
- Applying the GROW/GROWER/ABC coaching models to real-life coaching situations
- Questioning and listening/motivational/feedback techniques/use of positive language
- Practical coaching - work-based coaching scenarios/role plays
- Importance of ‘Follow-up' - ensuring application of learning
Learning Approach
The course is highly participative and delegates will be provided with tools to help them improve their coaching skills and have the opportunity to practice using these through role-plays.
Features
Pre-course, delegates will be asked to review a range of current under-performance issues to be discussed during the workshop.
Post-course, delegates will be asked to complete two performance reviews (at least one of which addresses an under-performance issue) and to produce a report/review for a Line manager.
