Five members of the Conservative Party visited Catalis at the historic Derby Conference Centre as a stop off point during their campaign trail.

Included in the delegation was Shadow Minister of State for Europe Mark Francois MP, MEP Emma McClarkin and Conservative Candidate for Derby South Jack Perschke all of whom were impressed by the Conference Centre and Catalis’ training facilities, not just in terms of its heritage as a centre for railway training but also its role as a Conference Centre and its reputation as a world class Rail and Health and Safety training facility.

The visit was organised by Campaign Manager Phil Bailey as part of an industrial tour of Derby South and Derby North and follows David Cameron’s rally at Burston’s Marston Brewery on the 21st April where he set out plans for the region.

For more than 70 years, the Derby Conference Centre has been as the core of the railway industry within the city and it therefore seemed only fitting that it should form part of the Conservatives visit to the town whilst on the campaign trail. The building operated by the RTC Group is head office to the Groups’ businesses Catalis - a leading Rail and Health and Safety training organisation, ATA Recruitment, a white collar engineering and technical recruitment specialist, Ganymede Solutions - focusing on the supply of contingent labour and the Derby Conference Centre, a hotel facility offering conference and event facilities to the corporate and private sector.

Indeed Phil Bailey, who is also Chairman of the Local Conservative Association, said the Derby Conference Centre was an obvious choice to be included on the tour.

He commented: “As a party our brief is trade and looking at how we can improve it and Rail is one of the main ways of getting people working. With its fantastic training facilities, we see Catalis, ATA and the Derby Conference Centre as continuing to play an integral role in this. However the facilities the Centre has to offer goes far beyond that.”

“The whole set up and ethos of the RTC Group is absolutly fantastic and an important part of the fabric of Derby and we are proud to have such an organisation and venue on our doorstep.”

Shadow Minister of State for Europe, Mark Francois was equally impressed with the facilities and commented: “I have been really impressed with the facilities here at both the Derby Conference Centre and Catalis.”

“Everyone knows that the economy is in difficulty, but we have to grow our way out of trouble then make certain we are providing the right skills set for the 21st centure.”

“The RTC Group through Catalis and subsequent businesses are evidently doing that and are an asset to the City and wider economy.”

In recognition of its heritage, the Grade II listed Derby Conference Centre, was last year awarded the Transport Trust’s Red Wheel Commemorate Plaque and in addition to continuing to operate as a centre of excellence for railway training.

Indeed each of the individual businessed continue to play a major role within the Railway marketplace and only last week ATA Rail, the recruitment arm of the RT Group, held a jobs fair which was attended by over one-third of redundant Jarvis workers in their quest for alternative employment.

Andy Pendlebury, Chief Executive of the RTC Group plc commented: “We were extremely pleased to be selected for a visit as part of the campaign trail.

“We have always taken great pride in our offering both to the Rail industry and beyond and to recieve such recognition is absolutly fantastic and a great tribute to all our staff.”

Catalis, the leading provider of Safety, Rail and Operations Training within the UK have had a flying start to 2010 with the growth and expansion of their operations!

The Catalis name is synonymous with Rail Training and having built from their excellent reputation within the Rail industry, Catalis have continued to expand their services to include a comprehensive protfolio of courses within the sectors of: Rail, Health and Safety, Environmental, and Electrical and Automation.

2010 looks set for another year of growth for the training provider with the launch of a new Confined Space facility at their Clapham site and the opening of a new training centre in Manchester, to help facilitate their clients based within the North West.

The new training venue enables Catalis to deliver Sentinel training courses in the Manchester area, in addition to their Derby, Clapham, Crewe and York facilities.

This purpose built training venue is located just outside of the City centre in Altrincham and officially opened in March, with a series of Rail Safety course dates available throughout 2010.

Other courses to be delivered on the site include Health and Safety, Electrical and Automation solutions and Leadership and Management training.

Their new Confined Space facility in Clapham was operational at the end of February and the facility compliments the Confined Space training suite commissioned in 2009 at Catalis’ Derby based training centre.

Catalis run a series of courses from London and Derby including: Confined Space Awareness, Confined Space Entry, Confined Space Supervisor and Confined Space Rescue.

Catalis designed and installed these facilities to meet the training requirements of individuals working within a Confined Space environment, providing delegates with the opportunity to gain practical, hands on training within a real life environment.

All Catalis Confined Space courses provide delegates with practical demonstrations of search and entry techniques and theoretical knowledge of the relevant legislation and hazards of working in a Confined Space environment.

Managing Director, Andrew Bailey said; “We have always had an excellent reputation for training solutions within the Rail industry and the breadth of practical training equipment available at our sites has always positioned us as market leaders.

When we expanded into the Health & Safety arena, to compliment our Rail specific training capabilities, we wanted to continue this hands-on, practical style of training as we have proven it delivers the best results for delegates. The new practical Confined Space units prove our commitment to this methodology. Initial training feedback from clients and delegates had been excellent!

In terms of the new Manchester venue, we are obviously extremely excited to be able to offer clients within the North West a local training option. With some courses already fully booked, 2010 in looking positive for Catalis.”

Catalis is dedicated to providing training solutions that enable customers to operate safely whilst enhancing their people and business performance.

For further information and course details please call 0845 880 8108 or email hotline@catalis.co.uk.
