WHO SHOULD ATTEND
For key staff who would like to be aware of the duties placed on the employer by the COSHH Regulations and want to become competent to undertake any duties that they are required to carry out, to enable their employer to meet the statutory requirements.

OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course the delegates should be able to:
• State the main requirements of the COSHH Regulations
• Carry out a basic COSHH risk assessment
• Identify suitable control methods for hazardous substances

CONTENT
• The reasons and motivation for the need to introduce measures to protect employees from exposure to hazardous substances
• A basic introduction into occupational health and hygiene which is necessary when undertaking COSHH assessments as it is important to have an understanding of the effects of hazardous substances on the body and the body’s defences
• The Chemicals (Hazard, Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations (CHIP) which place duties on manufacturers and suppliers to provide relevant information to their customers on hazardous substances they supply
• An explanation of The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
• How to undertake the various stages of a COSHH risk assessment and the control measures that may be required such as local exhaust ventilation and the provision of personal protective equipment
