This course is for existing First Line and Middle Managers who want to develop and adapt their leadership style to meet the needs of the business, the team, the task and the individual.
Objectives
- State the basic principles and importance of leadership
- Describe the qualities and behaviours of an effective leader
- Explain the difference between management and leadership
- Use the Action-Centred and Situational Leadership models to resolve a business issue
- Demonstrate a range of motivation and delegation techniques
- Describe the stages of team development and identify where the team is currently in that development
- Explain how the Belbin Team Profile can be used to improve team effectiveness
- Use effective questioning and listening techniques to facilitate discussion and enhance communication (including Team Briefs)
- Choose the style and method of communication that achieves the right results
- Give and receive objective feedback
- Explain the importance of Team Briefs to team/business success
- Demonstrate how to deliver an effective Team Brief
- Create a Personal Action Plan to implement on your return to work
Content
- What effective leaders do - the characteristics of effective leaders and identifying your preferred leadership style
- Motivation and delegation - how we motivate ourselves and techniques for motivating team members. Using delegation to develop and motivate team members
- Building a team - how teams are formed and what makes an effective team
- How we communicate - including verbal and non- verbal communication
- Giving and receiving feedback - focusing on the problem not the person
- Effective team briefings - making team briefings interesting, enjoyable, and effective
- Course review and personal action planning
Learning Approach
The course is highly participative and delegates will be provided with tools to help them improve their coaching skills and have the opportunity to practice using these through role-plays.
Features
- Pre-course, delegates will be asked to consider tyhe difference between ‘management' and ‘leadership'. They will also complete team profiling and communicating questionnaires.
- Post-course, delegates will use the Belbin Team Profile to identify preferred tam roles within their own team and identify gaps, strengths and weaknesses within the team. They will then prepare and implement a plan that will develop their team.
