Who Should Attend

This course is aimed at operational managers who wish to develop or enhance their problem solving skills.
It focuses on current business problems and provides delegates with a number of tried and tested techniques that they can use to today's operational problems.

Objectives

• State and describe a Problem Solving Model
• Use a range of techniques to investigate and analyse a problem and then create a positive outcome
• Use effective decision making techniques within the problem solving process
• Apply effective follow-up techniques to monitor problems
• Define ‘continuous improvement' and explain its importance to delivering customer service excellence and business success
• Implement continuous improvement techniques to stop problems reoccurring and/or stop them from happening in the first place
• Create a Personal Action Plan to implement on your return to work

Content

• Investigating and analyzing a problem - how to find out ‘what went wrong'
• Creative problem solving techniques
• How to evaluate a range of solutions
• Decision making
• Monitoring, reviewing and evaluating the outcomes of problem solving
• Importance of being ‘customer-centric' - The TQM approach to Quality
• Continuous improvement - concept and importance
• Introduction to ‘Lean Thinking' and simple tools such as the 5Ss
• Case studies - practising problem solving techniques on real-life case studies

Learning Approach

Using a very practical and participative style, delegates will have the opportunity to practise the techniques with the aim of achieving positive outcomes to a number of real-life business problems.

Features

Pre-course, delegates will be asked to identify at least three current/common problems they face.
Post-course, delegates will be asked to complete two post-course assignments. The first will ask the delegates to identify a current or future operational issue and then apply the tools and techniques covered on the workshop to achieve a ‘positive outcome'. The delegates will be asked to capture their thinking, the steps they took and the outcome(s).
A second activity revolves around the application of ‘lean thinking'. The delegates will be asked to review their operation, apply the 5Ss or CANDO to create an Improvement Plan and then implement/review that plan (in conjunction with their line manager).
