WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Delegates who need jointing skills in “A spec” or URM 70 co-ax cable and SSI data link cable.  Ideally Delegates should be familiar with the use of a Fluke and Megger and who have experience in basic cable jointing.  They will preferably have successfully completed Basic Signalling Cable Jointing and Testing (JS1) Course.

OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of the course the delegate will be able to:
• Explain the construction of co-ax and SSI Data link cables and outline their main use
• Select the correct cable, given the cable identification
• State the correct method of jointing cables
• Select the correct crimping tool for each type of crimp
• Correctly prepare the cable prior to jointing
• Joint cables to an acceptable standard ensuring that faults are not introduced
• Apply heat shrink or Scotchcast closures to complete joints using the manufacturers instructions
• Ensure that procedures are carried out safely and in accordance with rules and safety instructions

• Cable preparation prior to jointing
• Cable jointing and practical work
• Application of closures: where applicable
• Safety considerations

LEARNING APPROACH
Theory together with practical work which constitutes approximately 80% of the course and includes:
• Jointing an “A spec” co-ax cable to an “A spec” co-ax cable
• Completing a transition joint “A spec” co-ax cable to an URM 70 co-ax cable
• Jointing an SSI data link using heat shrink and Scotchcast closures
Practical assessments are included.

FEATURES
Hands on experience of joint and testing the different cable types.  A simulated environment with the ability to have faults applied such that any errors made do not compromise safety of traffic.  One to one training as required using a variety of training delivery methods. Practical assessments used to test the course and standards objectives.
