WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Ideal for developing professional shunter skills, knowledge and attitudes with new entrant shunters, enabling consistent performance whilst undertaking the shunting progress.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the Rule Book, Appendix and other relevant publications
• Recognise the importance of and use clear communication skills with others
• Demonstrate an understanding of depot protection and yard working.
• Undertake shunting movements using appropriate Hand, Lamp and Verbal signals.
• Identify differing basic vehicle types applicable to the Depot
• Describe the function and operation of differing braking systems (Auto Air/3wire EP)
• Undertake continuity testing and secure vehicles in line with company procedures
CONTENT
Delegates will be issued with course notes that will be used throughout the training programme, which will include information relating to rules, regulations and technical information.
LEARNING APPROACH
The theory part of the training which is approximately 30% of the course will be delivered in a classroom environment, which will be tutor lead, with support of presentation material. The remaining 70% of the course will be practical based using the Depot site and Vehicle fleet(s) to practise and gain experience of the relevant skills relating to the role.
FEATURES
The Shunter is one of the most important roles within a maintenance Depot. Along with the importance of the role comes a high degree of responsibility in terms of carrying out the duties safely and competently and to protect the integrity and condition of the vehicles within the Depot.

Depot Induction and specific Safety Certificate relevant to the site.
