WHO SHOULD ATTEND
People aged 18 or over that are required to be in charge of a worksite within possession and authorise the movement of trains into or within a worksite. Railtrack Group Standard GO/RT3261 requires delegates to have at least 2 years documented prior experience including carrying out the duties of a COSS and taking supervisory responsibility for a group of persons. This Group Standard also requires employers to select delegates for the role of Engineering Supervisor based on documented processes to assess aptitude and prior experience and gives details of the specific requirements.

OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of the course the delegate will be able to:
•  State the requirements for appointment as Engineering Supervisor
•  State what will be discussed at a pre-planning meeting
•  State the information required by Engineering Supervisor and in which publications obtainable
•  State the requirements for effective communications
•  State the basic procedure followed by PICOP when a possession is taken
•  State the requirements for authorising work to start
•  Demonstrate the ability to follow the procedure for authorising work to start
•  Demonstrate the ability to effectively record information regarding authorising work to start
•  State Rule Book sections and requirements for setting up a safe worksite
•  State requirements for safe and efficient train movements
•  State the requirements for change over of personnel
•  Demonstrate the ability to follow change over procedures
•  Demonstrate the ability to effectively record information regarding changeover of personnel
•  State the requirements for suspending or handing back a worksite
•  Demonstrate the ability to follow procedures for hand back of a worksite
•  Demonstrate the ability to effectively record information regarding handing back of a worksite

LEARNING APPROACH
A classroom based event with trainer led sessions.  Group and individual exercises with a detailed paper based simulation. A theory assessment is also included.

FEATURES
For successful delegates an application will be sent to NCCA for a competence certificate valid for 2 years.  The delegate must then undertake Engineering Supervisor duties under the direct supervision of an existing Engineering Supervisor until such time as they are considered to be suitably experienced to undergo a competence assessment.  After the initial competence assessment, a full reassessment of competence must be carried out every 12 months and a renewed certificate applied for every 2 years.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
•  A valid medical certificate that meets the requirements of Railway Group Standard GO/RT 3353
•  NCCA site ID and address of sponsoring organisation will be required when booking the event
