WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is for new trainee Guards and deals with their roles and responsibilities. There is practical and role play sessions used to develop a professional and consistent performance for Guards duties in this safety critical role.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
• Describe what is meant by Safety Critical Work Regulations
• Demonstrate how to maintain personal safety at all times when on or near the line
• Demonstrate knowledge of the Rule Book, Sectional Appendix and other publications
• Demonstrate an understanding of safe working of trains
• Undertake the safe control of train movements by hand, lamp and verbal communications
• Identify how to deal with out of course situations and emergencies whilst working trains
• Identify differing unit types applicable to the fleet and how to safely work them
• Demonstrate an understanding of how to carry out revenue collection duties
CONTENT
To develop professional Guard’s skills, knowledge and attitudes with new entrant Guards to enable a consistent and satisfactory performance whilst undertaking Guard’s duties.
The 3 core modules delivered are:
• Rules & regulations, including PTS
• Units & traction
• Retail & commercial, including Avantix or Sportis
LEARNING APPROACH
Delegates will be issued with course notes that will be used throughout the training programme, which will include information relating to rules, regulations and information relevant to the role. Knowledge and achievements will be monitored during the course through practical and written assessments.
Theory training is 70% of the course and delivered in a classroom environment, which will be tutor led, with support of presentation material, with 30% of the course being practical based on board trains and at stations to practice and gain experience of the relevant skills relating to the role.
FEATURES
The course is continually assessed (theory) and graded according to client requirements and presented with a certificate after course completion.
Due to the theory/practical nature of the event and restricted access, delegates are limited to 10.
PRE-REQUISITES
Certificate of medical fitness (including screening for alcohol and drugs). Safety footwear and high visibility clothing and copy of current Rule Book and relevant sectional appendices required.
