WHO SHOULD ATTEND
New entrants to the industry, either primarily as Graduates coming from a final year in University or staff entering the rail industry from other areas of business.
The modules may be tailored to provide the best and most appropriate range of training applicable to the individual.
OBJECTIVES
Individual Objective sheets are available for each module upon request. The Modules available for training are:
• Overview of Rail Industry (who’s who and who does what)
• TRS Vehicle Types
• Electric Power Supplies
• AC Traction Equipment
• Bogies and Wheelsets
• Brake Systems
• Auxiliary Systems (Air Conditioning/Lighting)
• Train Control (Train Jumper Cables, TDM, PWM)
• Engines and Transmissions
CONTENT
Developed for and with the support of Bombardier Transportation, these modules are aimed at giving individuals an overview of the rail industry, focussing on Traction and Rolling stock and the Operation and function of major systems and equipment inerrant to the vehicles found on the rail network.
LEARNING APPROACH
Tutor led classroom and on vehicle practical sessions.
Visits to different railway environments are a normal feature of this event. Included (depending on availability at the time) are:
• Vehicle Build Facility
• Maintenance Depot
• Station Environment
FEATURES
On successful completion of this course a certificate of attainment relevant to course objectives and/or assessments will be awarded.
REQUIREMENTS
50% of the course is conducted in a railway operating environment away from the classroom. Therefore the following are recommended:
Sturdy shoes
Warm clothing
