Solid State Interlocking

Duration: 10 Days

Division: Signal Maintenance

Course code: SSI

Venues

Clapham or Derby

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Delegates whose work requires an understanding of operation faulting techniques used on SSI systems. Delegates must be able to interpret wiring diagrams, use a digital multi-meter, have a good understanding of railway signalling principles and have successfully completed the Introduction to Relay Interlocking (RI) course.

OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of the course the delegate will be able to:
• Maintain the system
• Locate and rectify common faults
• Use the technicians terminal to extract information
• Apply and remove technicians controls

CONTENT
• Processors and computing
• System overview
• Central interlocking
• Data transmission
• Location case circuitry
• Use of technician’s terminal
• Fault Location procedures

LEARNING APPROACH
Classroom sessions, practical demonstrations and fault finding with approximately 60% of the course comprising practical work. Theory and practical assessments are included.

FEATURES
Delegates have an opportunity to develop fault-finding skills on a complex interlocking without compromising the safety of a working interlocking. The skills obtained allow the rapid resolution of potentially costly failures on lineside systems.  The use of a system not connected to a working railway allows the introduction of a range of faults giving the delegate the maximum experience of potential failures.
